100 Day Design Challenge

I officially began on February 26, 2017 and completed the design challenge on June 5, 2017. I began with little to no design knowledge, and my goal was to become familiar and quicker with design tools and see how much I've improved from Day 1 all the way to Day 100.

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in the past 100 days was that designing wasn’t just simply placing nice colours and shapes onto a page. It’s really about solving the greater user experience problem, to provide a seamless, problem-free experience for all users, whether it be within an app or a website.

Day 89 - Hot or Cold?

This was a lot easier to create than I thought. The struggle for this design was to find a background image suitable for the design. I got my inspiration from this site .

I tried finding a background image similar to the example, but couldn't find one I liked. Another struggle I had was the placement of the informational text. I found that in the example, there was barely any structure, making it very messy. That's the idea I got when I created mine. The top left corner was out of balance and not properly aligned.

However, one thing I really enjoyed creating was the weekly temperature bar at the bottom. I'm a fan of shadows, so incorporating a hint of shadow to stress importance was a great idea. However, I feel there was a lot of informaiton missing from this bar. Important information such as low and high temperatures, wind speeds, etc. Because it's such a clean design, I think it would be alright to add in some information that would help the user. It wouldn't make the design cluttered because it definitely has room to let more information fill up the space.

I wouldn't say that I'm satisfied with the outcome of this one. It definitely wasn't challenging enough for me. I want to design something that uses all the techniques that I've learned and adding my own little twist to it.
